Swamplot covered a METRO study this week that shows Houston’s population is quickly approaching a major milestone. According to the story, the “Houston area” as defined by the study includes Harris, Montgomery, Waller, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Galveston, Chambers, and Liberty counties. Altogether the “area” spans more land than 4 states combined. A complete breakdown and population heat map showing 2025 estimates as well as historical data are available on the METRO website. According to census data, our current population is in the neighborhood of 6M. So, we can expect plenty of growth to get where they say we’re going.
